During the week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson encountered an odd situation. A Bills fan, who identified himself with a red Josh Allen jersey, was seen hitting Ravens players in their helmets. The fan first struck wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins during a late third-quarter touchdown celebration. Moments later, he hit Lamar Jackson, who shoved the fan in response. The fan was immediately ejected from the game, and the NFL later announced an indefinite ban from all stadiums for the fan.

The incident happened when DeAndre Hopkins made a one-handed touchdown catch, giving the Ravens a 34–19 lead. Hopkins and his teammates celebrated in front of the crowd when the fan reached over and struck Hopkins’ helmet. Seconds later, Lamar Jackson was hit by the same fan. Jackson responded by shoving the fan away, showing frustration but not escalating the situation further. Security quickly intervened, removing the fan from the stadium. Jackson was not penalized for his reaction. After the game, Jackson said, “He slapped me, and he was talking — so, I just forgot where I was for a little bit. You have to think in those situations. Let security handle it. I just let my emotions get the best of me. Hopefully, it doesn’t happen again”.

NFL bans fan from all stadiums following incident

The fan’s actions violated NFL safety and conduct rules. The league has a zero-tolerance policy for fans that interfere with players and they will severely punish that type of behavior. An indefinite ban from all NFL stadiums is a statement the league sent that hitting players or crossing certain boundaries will not be tolerated. It’s a reminder to always remember as a fan that there is respect that must be shown to the players on the field. With any luck, despite the fan being ejected, the game continued, with the Ravens leading 40-25. Within moments of being ejected, the Bills made their furious comeback. Again, it gives value to sportsmanship, whether it’s on the field, in the rink, or in the stands.
