BTS leader RM, has hit the headlines once again, this time after reports emerged that the star’s 100 million won donation may has disappeared. The huge donation, made last year, in celebration of his 30th birthday, was reportedly intended to support South Korean veterans and uniformed service members through the Everyone’s Veterans Dream Project, part of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs’ Uniform Worker Appreciation Campaign. This initiative honours soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and other public safety personnel.
RM’s donation vanishes
According to Korea JoongAng Daily, RM’s agency BigHit Music confirmed that the singer had indeed made the generous donation. However, at the same times, the ministry cannot verify how the funds were distributed or used.
About the donation system
As per the regulations, South Korea’s donation system see contributions deposited into a single account known as the National Conference for Unification Support Account, where funds are pooled together with other donations. This makes it difficult to trace donations for specific causes.News of the untraceable funds sparked reactions among BTS fans, on social media. Many expressed their frustrations, arguing that it reflects poorly on government institutions safeguarding veterans’ welfare.
RM’s statement
The project RM supported was designed to promote respect and recognition for men in uniform. It also included families of veterans and those who lost their loved ones. Announcing his donation to the cause, RM said in a statement, “I have recently come to feel the dedication of so many people to our country. I hope this contribution can provide some small help to all the heroes who are committed to our nation and to those working for peace. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the ARMY for always showering me with love and congratulations.”
