The progress of 16-way waste segregation was also reviewed

Panaji: A team from the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs along with officials of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) held meetings over two days to set a roadmap to ensure zero landfill in Panaji.
Those who took part in the deliberations included Union ministry’s Naim Keruwala, the programme director of CITIIS (City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain), Sanjit Rodrigues of the IPSCDL, and officials of the CCP.The programme will be called ‘Aamchi Swachh Panaji’.
CITIIS 2.0 was conceived in partnership with French Development Agency, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, the European Union, and National Institute of Urban Affairs. During the exchanges, officials reviewed the progress of the 16-way waste segregation which has been piloted in 33 residential colonies in the city since June 2021. Under CITIIS 2.0, a proposal plans to expand this model to 205 residential colonies.
Upgrades to the material recovery facility at St Inez and bio-digesters were proposed. ‘Aamchi Swachh Panaji’ aims to promote a citizen-centric, decentralised model of waste management.
The 16-way waste segregation at the colony level has been implemented to ensure efficient separation and reduction of the burden on central waste facilities.
“We are privileged to have central teams visiting Goa and collaborating with us, ensuring our efforts are both effective and achievable,” Rodrigues said.

Their visits included stops at the sorting station and bio-digester near NIWS, PAWS, Hotel Fidalgo, material recovery facility at St Inez, the composting station at Panaji market, the bio-methanation plant near Heera petrol pump, and the effluent water tank at Campal Ground.
