Debt-ridden farmer dies by suicide in Moradabad

BAREILLY: A debt-ridden farmer in Moradabad district allegedly died by suicide by lying on the railway track in Katghar area on Saturday night. Jaipal Singh (50) was a resident of Dhakia Naru in Bilari police station area. Eyewitnesses said Jaipal Singh was run over by a train around 8.30pm.
Initial investigation revealed he had borrowed money at a high-interest rate from someone and was distressed because he couldn’t repay it.On receiving information from locals, police took the body into custody for the post-mortem and informed his family. They identified him based on documents found in his pocket.
Jaipal’s brother-in-law, Amit Kumar, said, “He left home on Saturday morning. His family thought he was going for a walk but when he didn’t come back home in the evening, people started searching for him. There was no trace of him till late evening and his phone was switched off. Late at night, police informed us about it. He was quite upset because of a loan of nearly Rs 2 lakh.” Jaipal’s wife, Manju, went to the mortuary while his son, Sachin, who works in a private company in Delhi, was yet to arrive.
Katghar police station in-charge, Sanjay Kumar, said, “Preliminary investigation suggests Jaipal was not able to repay the loan on time because of the high-interest rate. We will register an FIR if any complaint is filed by the family.”
