Deepika Padukone has finally addressed speculation about her possible return to the romantic comedy genre. The actress, who recently hosted an intimate pre-birthday event for her fans, sat down with the lot for a candid chat where she spoke about various aspects of her life. Besides discussing her personal life, she also opened up about her upcoming film slate and the possibility of starring in a fun rom-com. Interestingly enough, her fans had a long list of hunks they would want to see her co-starring with, randing from the likes of Ranbir Kapoor to Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan and even her husband, Ranveer Singh.

A video from the event, now doing the rounds on social media, sees the actress reading out a question from her fan that read, “When are we seeing you in a rom-com again?” Responding to the fan, she said, “I really hope very, very soon. As you all know, it is also one of my most favourite genres as an audience and also as an actor.” However, the actress went on to share her concerns about the feasibility of the project, saying, “I just feel like the climate right now or the environment right now, I feel like the audience is seeking something else. But if so many of you want a rom-com, I am sure a large part of the public also wants that.“That’s not all the fans wanted. While they were at it, her fans also threw in casting suggestions naming Hrithik Roshan and quickly following it up with Ranbir Kapoor. “We have spoken about it, honestly…” Deepika said before she was cut off by a fan who suggested that she should romance both actors.This prompted the host to join in and suggest Shah Rukh Khan as well. However, it was hubby, Ranveer Singh’s name that received the loudest cheers and applause. The host then asked Deepika to convince Ranveer to star in a rom-com with her, teasing “‘Dhurandhar’ and all is alright, but… (laughs).”

Deepika then turned the discussion, hinting at possibly exploring the OTT space. “If I did OTT, would you all be upset?” she asked, a suggestion her fans seemed to discourage saying, “You are meant for the big screen.”The actress went on to share her thoughts about the lack of films in the rom-com genre. Revealing the hurdles in making these kind o films, she said, “But honestly, this is something that even me and my team, we keep looking out for. We are constantly looking for drama, love story, rom-com, these genres, but I feel like there are very few producers backing that kind of content, or very few writers writing that right now.”Inviting fans to help her make a film in this genre, she said, “If you come across an interesting book, interesting material, always happy to look at that.”

While no official project has been announced, Deepika was in the news recently when rumour spread about the actress’ possible reunion with Ranbir, in Ayan Mukerji’s next film, believed to be loosely adapted from Raj Kapoor and Nargis’ film, ‘Chori Chori’.Meanwhile, she is currently working on Shah Rukh Khan’s next action film ‘King’ and will also be seen in director Atlee’s next sci-fi film.
