Dhurandhar has shaken the box office, and the film continues to break records. Akshaye Khanna’s role as Rehman Dakait earned widespread attention. From his dialogues to his style, everyone is head-over-heels for him. Amid all this, Rehman Dakait’s Lyari residence, which has made multiple appearances in the show, has caught everyone’s attention. But did you know, the Rehman’s residence shown in the movie is a real location, and it is in India! It’s called ‘Lal Kothi’ and is located in Amritsar.
Lal Kothi: Rehman Dakait’s on-screen home
Lal Kothi is a 19th-century haveli, standing quietly in Punjab’s Amritsar. The haveli was built around 1876, according to historian and author Peter Bance. The structure reflects a layered architectural mix. European and colonial elements sit alongside traditional haveli design.
Italian and French influences are visible across several rooms, particularly in the interior layout and finishes. Inside, the details remain intact. Marble floors. Carved wooden staircases. Open fireplaces. Even marble water fountains that are no longer in use, according to historian Peter Bance.
A popular shoot location
The Lal Kothi is not a new location for filmmakers or film crews. It has been used in a lot of other productions as well.Caretaker Deepak Yadav told TrueScoop that several film crews have shot at the property over the years, including Sadiyaan, which starred Rishi Kapoor and Rekha. The caretaker also added that the property has changed hands over time and is now maintained by an ashram and managed by a trust.
Attention drew after Dhurandhar’s release
More recently, the cast of Dhurandhar, including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Ranveer Singh, and Sunny Deol, has filmed there. Saumya Tandon, who played the role of Rehman Dakait’s on-screen wife, revealed the location back in December on social media. She wrote, “The very first scene I shot for #Dhurandhar , in Amritsar-Rehman Dakait’s haveli.”
