Ranchi: The govt-run sadar hospital here is planning to implement several new safety measures to strengthen security on its premises. The hospital management on Saturday said it will soon introduce a Blue Light Emergency Alarm System (BLEAS) to enhance rapid response during emergencies, increase the number of security guards and install a police outpost. Initially, five additional security guards will be deployed to strengthen internal vigilance. At present, 75 security personnel man the premises. The hospital has also written to the police department requesting the establishment of a police chowki (outpost) within the hospital premises for better coordination and continuous security. At present, police personnel visit the hospital occasionally, but entry requires an official ticket from the hospital premises. The management has further decided to deploy private security guards trained to respond swiftly to any untoward situation. Five guards will be deployed also.“There have been instances of indecent behaviour and occasional assaults by patients’ relatives on doctors and healthcare workers during treatment, which not only disrupts hospital operations but also creates a tense environment for both staff and patients,” Ranchi civil surgeon and chief medical officer of the hospital, Dr Prabhat Kumar, said. Officials said BLEAS is designed to alert the security personnel and police instantly in case of disputes, altercations, or emergencies inside the hospital. Once activated, the alarm will start blaring so that the guards and the police are intimated. Kumar said procurement process for the system will be initiated after Chhath festivities are over.
