Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has never shied away from speaking her mind, but in a recent chat, she got brutally honest about a side of fame that’s often left her uncomfortable — people ignoring her husband, Shirish Kunder, at Bollywood gatherings. In a conversation with close friend Sania Mirza on her YouTube show Serving It Up With Sania, Farah revealed that while her straightforward nature has sometimes offended people, what really bothered her was how differently her husband was treated in social settings.“Not just the industry, the world is full of a*****, so they will always hone in on the person who is more successful at that point,” Farah said candidly. “They would only talk to me and ignore my husband, and I didn’t like that, and he didn’t either.”
‘We came to an agreement’
The Main Hoon Na director, who married Shirish in 2004, admitted that this imbalance often caused friction in their relationship early on. “In the beginning, it was very challenging and we used to have a lot of fights when I would force him to come out with me,” she said.Eventually, the couple found a middle ground. “After a point, we came to an agreement that if you are uncomfortable coming out with this set of people, then don’t come. I want him to be happy and at peace,” she shared.
‘We don’t need to prove our love on the red carpet’
Farah also addressed why she and Shirish prefer to keep their relationship away from the public gaze. “We know we are secure in our marriage and we don’t need to hold hands on the red carpet. Sometimes, I feel that the more people are holding hands on the red carpet, something is brewing,” she added with her trademark wit.Farah and Shirish first met during the making of Main Hoon Na, where he worked as an editor. They tied the knot in 2004 and became parents to triplets — Diva, Anya, and Czar — in 2008 through IVF.
