Porvorim: In the heritage sector, efforts will be made to implement the Goa State Heritage Policy this year, said chief minister Pramod Sawant while presenting the Goa state budget on Wednesday. “I propose to take up a structural audit of all heritage buildings in the state, and thereafter, restoration of all the heritage buildings as per need and assessment will be initiated,” he said.
The chief minister added, “To improve the visual appeal of govt buildings, I propose to paint all govt buildings in respective locations with a uniform colour code.”
For the department of archaeology, a provision of Rs 47.4 crore has been allocated. For the restoration of Colvale fort, Chapora fort, Monte Chapel, Mormugao fort, Jain Basti, and Cabo de Rama fort, construction of Saptakoteshwar temple in Divar, development of Chandor heritage village, and other projects, Rs 71 crore has been set aside.
The department of museums will be allotted Rs 14.8 crore. The existing building at the Adil Shah Palace will be upgraded. Works for the new building of the Goa State Museum will commence this year, for which Rs 22 crore has been allocated. The new museum building will have a gallery dedicated to the renowned cartoonist of Goan origin, Mario Miranda.
Sawant proposed the creation of a special task force under the ‘Mukhyamantri Goinche Dayaz Sankalan Yojana’, which will focus on gathering, compiling, and preserving reports, documents, and artefacts from significant sites, locations, and remains across Goa.
Sanquelim fort and Corjuem fort, each renovated at a cost of Rs 3.6 crore and Rs 3 crore respectively, will be completed this year.
The museum of Mahalsa Narayani temple will also be completed this year.
