Panaji: The IT department has appointed Grant Thornton as the consultant to finalise the design policy for Goa’s creative industry.Officials said the draft policy is expected to be ready in Jan, when it will be put out in the public domain for feedback. They said the initial inputs for the policy were obtained through discussions with the creative community of Goa, the Association of Designers of India, and other experts to explore the requirements for the design policy.It is expected to cater to product designers, photographers, architects, UI/UX developers, game designers, videographers, musicians, and digital artists. The department’s broad vision for the policy is to strengthen design capabilities across sectors and to establish Goa as a global hub for design and design-driven enterprises. It hopes the policy will help connect design professionals with Goa’s industrial units.Stakeholders said work on the policy has been going on for more than a year.The Startup and IT Promotion Cell seeks to transform 100 villages into hubs for digital nomads and creative innovators. The department is also likely to look at incorporating design education into Goa’s academic structure. A design village, where innovators and students will be able to develop prototypes of products, is on the cards too.
