House of the Dragon Season 3: First look teases epic battles, Dragons and ‘dire consequences’ in 2026 |

It’ll be a while before we head back to Westeros, but fans of the hit ‘Game of Thrones’ franchise got a glimpse of all that is set to unfold on screens in 2026. HBO Max offered audiences an early glimpse into its 2026 slate, unveiling a new promo that features footage from several highly anticipated titles, including ‘Euphoria’ Season 3, ‘Lanterns’, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3. The teaser places the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel in the spotlight, teasing battles, first glimpse of new characters and of course, dragons. The newly revealed footage from Season 3 has hinted at a darker chapter, with more epic battles and bloodshed. In the clip, Alicent Hightower, played by Olivia Cooke, is heard saying, “Rhaenyra will do what she has to do. And what she has to do will be dire.”

Highlights from the teaser

Corlys Velaryon also features in the teaser, urging Rhaenyra to decide what she truly wants, suggesting that the battle for the Iron Throne is near at hand and while some fan favourite characters will return, some will meet their end.The third season is expected to deliver on the large-scale action sequences, kicking off with the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet, which featured in the conclusion of Season 2. The battle sequence is said to feature the largest naval conflict in Westeros history. Although the battle scene was set to feature in season 2, it was later pushed back to season 3.According to reports, Aemond Targaryen and Alicent’s complex mother-son dynamic will be a focal point in his season. With Aegon sidelined and Aemond calling the shots.

Ormund Hightower makes first appearance

The footage also offers a first look at James Norton as Lord Ormund Hightower, who was only mentioned in Season 2. This time, he makes his appearance, front and centre, while ready to go to war

First look at House Stark

House Stark fans will be in for a treat with the North raising their banners, led by Lord Roderick Dustin, also known as Roddy the Ruin.

Series renewed

‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 is slated to premiere in summer 2026. Ahead of that, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, will debut on January 18, 2026. HBO has already renewed both series, with ‘House of the Dragon’ set to conclude with a fourth season planned for 2028, and ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ greenlit for a second season, expected to air in 2027.
