Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Parasakthi’ is all set to release during Pongal 2026. The film will hit theatres on January 10, 2026. This means it will clash at the box office with Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’, which is releasing on January 9. Jana Nayagan is being talked about as Vijay’s final film before he fully steps into politics. SK has now opened up about ‘Parasakthi’s clash with his film.
Sivakarthikeyan says he felt shocked
Sivakarthikeyan openly spoke during the ‘Parasakthi’ pre-release event about how he felt when he heard about the clash. He said, “We first thought of releasing Parasakthi during Diwali 2025 but by then the Jana Nayagan team had already fixed that date. So we dropped the idea and continued working on our film with Pongal in mind. Later when the Jana Nayagan team also shifted their release to Pongal I was really shocked.”SK clearly shared that the news made him nervous and this is especially since ‘Jana Nayagan’ is Vijay’s last film.
Producer talk and election timing
Sivakarthikeyan also explained why changing the release date was not easy. He said,“I called our producer Akash bro and asked if we could move our release date to avoid clashing with Jana Nayagan. But he told me that all the investors were already informed about a Pongal release. He also said that if we postponed it, the film would come out only in the summer of 2026, which is when the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are set to happen.”
Vijay’s response and SK’s message to fans
Sivakarthikeyan then shared what happened when he reached out to Vijay’s side. He said,“I asked him ‘What is this, bro? Parasakthi and Jana Nayagan are releasing at the same time, and this is being promoted as Vijay sir’s last film. You may not face any issue at the box office, but I surely will. Can you please ask sir about this once?’”He added that Vijay’s manager called him back in five minutes. “He told me that Vijay sir believes that since it’s Pongal, both films have enough space to release and will not affect each other at the box office. Sir also conveyed his best wishes for Parasakthi.”Sivakarthikeyan ended with a warm request to fans. “Everyone, please go and watch Jana Nayagan on January 9 and celebrate it. We are talking about a man who has entertained us for 33 years. After that, on January 10, come to the theatres, watch Parasakthi, and celebrate that as well.”Earlier too SK had made his stand clear in an audio launch event, saying, “I want to make it clear that I never asked anyone to take one or the other (film), nor did I tell anyone to take my film and discard someone else’s film.”
