Is Superstition Behind Jamshedpur's Alleged Human Sacrifice Murder?

Jamshedpur: A youth of Gadabasa area in the Steel City was allegedly killed by his neighbour in a suspected case of ‘human sacrifice’ on Tuesday, police said.Area resident Sunil Prasad said, “Accused Sandip Kumar, along with his three accomplices, allegedly rendered Ajay Basa (27) unconscious at the latter’s house early in the day. The accused put the victim in a trunk and carried it to a hotel before transporting it to the empty home of Sandip.“My brother became suspicious and peaked into the room. He found Sandip indiscriminately attacking Ajay with a chopper. He shouted at Sandip to stop but in vain. The police were alerted. Police found the victim in an unconscious state and took him to the Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where doctors declared him brought dead,” he added.“Sandip killed Ajay to obtain his skull to perform prayers during Navratri,” Sunil alleged.Sandip used to practise witchcraft. Ajay’s father had died by suicide a year ago due to the superstition act of Sandip, the family members of the deceased claimed.DSP (law and order) Sunil Chaudhary said, “The accused has been arrested and forwarded to jail. Probe is on.”Golmuri police said four others — Sandip’s mother, sister, brother, and a friend — have been detained for interrogation.
