Satyajit Singh breathed his last on October 11. The Bhog and Antim Ardas for the late Satyajit Singh will be held on October 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Gurudwara Dhan Pothohar Nagar, Santacruz West, Mumbai, as reported by Film Information.

Actor’s family roots linked to iconic painter Amrita Sher-Gil

Few know that Jimmy Shergill belongs to a family with a rich artistic legacy. Born into a Sikh family, Jimmy hails from Deokahia village in Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The Hungarian-Jewish painter Amrita Sher-Gil, one of India’s most celebrated artists, was Jimmy’s grandfather’s cousin. His father, Satyajit Singh Shergill, was also a senior artist, reflecting the family’s deep connection with art and creativity.

When Jimmy recalled his strained relationship with father

In a past interview with Bombay Times, Jimmy Shergill had opened up about a personal phase when he faced tension with his father over his decision to cut his hair during his teenage years. The actor shared, “I wore a turban till I was about 18, till it became really difficult for me to manage washing and wearing one in a hostel. Of course, it was many other things too but I asked my dad casually on one of his trips to my hostel and decided to cut my hair one day. Not just my parents, but my entire family did not talk to me for a year-and-a-half properly after that.”

Jimmy Shergill has successfully built a strong career spanning both Hindi and Punjabi cinema. Over the years, he has played a variety of roles that have earned him critical acclaim and a loyal fan following. On the work front, Shergill was last seen in the Punjabi film ‘Maa Jaye’, which released on August 29, 2025. He recently appeared in the web series ‘Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond’ and the thriller ‘Sikandar Ka Muqaddar’.
