Jyothika, the 46-year-old actress, debuted in the acting business starring alongside Akshaye Khanna in the 1997 Hindi film ‘Doli Saja Ke Rakhna,’ directed by Priyadarshan. However, the film failed to prosper at the box office, but her role was well-received by the audience. Taking a strong leap, the star ventured into Tamil cinema, where she worked in the 1999 film ‘Vaalee,’ starring Ajith Kumar, receiving the Best Female Debut Award for her prominent role. In an interview with Film Companian, Jyothika revealed that initially she was supposed to debut in ‘Vaalee’; however, due to issues concerning dates, she withdrew from the Tamil film. However, Director SJ Surya offered her a smaller part in the film, which she later accepted. While she acknowledged the mistake, she regrets letting go of the film.

Throughout her career, which now spans almost three decades, she has worked with multiple industry giants such as Kamal Hasan, Rajnikanth, Vijay, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and her husband, Suriya. Establishing a strong persona in the Southern film industry, Jyothika worked in multiple hits, including ‘Kushi’ (2000), ’12B’ (2001), ‘Dum Dum Dum’ (2001), ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ (2003), ‘Chandramukhi’ (2005), and ‘Mozhi’ (2007). In an interview with The Mashable, Suriya revealed that Jyothika was earning three times as him when they met. While he fumbled his lines, the actress quite prominently had discipline and a work ethic. “Also, she skyrocketed to success, and I took five years to stabilize. It took me some time to call myself a hero and have my own market. In Kaakha Kaakha, her salary was three times higher than mine,” he shared. Jyothika’s recent hits have been ‘Shaitaan,’ alongside Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan, along with a Netflix series, ‘Dabba Cartel,’ starring Shabana Azmi, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, and Shalini Pandey.
