The ongoing discussion around 8-hour work shifts in the film industry continues to gain momentum after Deepika Padukone’s departure from Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD. Adding her perspective, Uppena actress Krithi Shetty has said that every artiste follows a different work rhythm and that comparing one actor to another is unrealistic — especially when it comes to actresses.
‘Everyone’s process is different’
Ahead of the release of Nalan Kumarasamy’s Vaa Vaathiyaar, Krithi told IANS, “I think cinema has never been one size fits all. Every single person here is different. Everyone’s working process is different. No two people are the same. Obviously no two actresses can be the same. Because I think actresses are a little more different in their process of living and a little more clear because they are so conscious of what they do. So I think it all depends on what works for you.”
Krithi says she can work round the clock
Opening up about her own work ethic, the actress said she is willing to take on lengthy shoot schedules as long as her energy allows it. She shared, “Personally, I can work 24 hours because I might have the energy to. I don’t have as many family responsibilities to take care of. I am willing to. I am a director’s actor. If the director requires me to work 13 hours. I am completely willing to.”Krithi revealed she even handled back-to-back schedules for her upcoming project. “In fact, while shooting for this film, I was doing double shifts. One in Hyderabad and one here in Chennai. Right now, I am willing to work because I have the energy. But if someone doesn’t, I particularly don’t see it as a wrong thing.”
‘Healthier if discussed beforehand’
The actress further emphasised that communication between artistes and filmmakers can help avoid disputes over shift timings. “If the director and the producers know in advance that an actor is willing to work these long hours, then there is no issue. If not, they can look for another person. So, I think it depends on the individual. And it’s healthier if it’s discussed in prior.”
Deepika Padukone controversy still fresh
Deepika recently made headlines after her demand for 8-hour shifts became a major industry flashpoint, eventually leading to her exit from two high-profile films. The actress is currently gearing up for Shah Rukh Khan’s King and Atlee–Allu Arjun’s yet-to-be-titled big-scale project.
