Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial venture ‘L2: Empuraan’ continues to dominate the box office, crossing the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in just 13 days. The action-packed sequel to ‘Lucifer’ has now collected an estimated Rs 101.15 crore in India net collections across all languages, according to early estimates from the Sacnilk website.
Massive opening collections
The film, which features Mohanlal reprising his iconic role as Khureshi-Ab’ram alongside a powerful ensemble cast including Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, and Sachin Khedekar, had a phenomenal start with Rs 21 crore on its opening day. Primarily driven by its performance in the Malayalam belt, ‘L2: Empuraan’ earned Rs 80.7 crore from Malayalam alone in its first week.
Despite a predictable weekday drop after its opening weekend, the film held steady through its second weekend. On day 13 (April 8), the film earned approximately Rs 1.25 crore.
Occupancy rates
The occupancy trends from Tuesday indicate a moderate yet consistent interest, especially in Kerala. Malayalam (2D) occupancy stood at 15.32% overall, with night shows peaking at 18.51%. Tamil occupancy for the same day hovered around 12.15%, indicating that the dubbed versions continue to draw a section of the audience beyond Kerala.
‘L2: Empuraan’ marks Prithviraj’s third directorial and a crucial installment in the Lucifer franchise. With stylish action, political intrigue, and a strong emotional undercurrent, the film has appealed to both mass and class audiences. Its multilingual release strategy has also played a key role in reaching a pan-Indian audience.
The film is expected to continue its theatrical run in the coming days with minor drops, especially as it nears the two-week mark. Also, the controversy around the film has indeed boosted the box office performance for the Mohanlal starrer action packed drama movie.
