Dominic Arun’s dark fantasy superhero film ‘Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra’ continues to hold its grip at the box office even after more than two weeks of release.The Kalyani Priyadarshan starrer superhero film brought in approximately Rs 6.35 crore (early estimates) across languages, pushing its total India net earnings to over Rs 112 crore in 17 days. While Kalyani Priyadarshan’s another new film ‘Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira’ failed to impress, ‘Lokah’ is setting no limits in it’s box office run.
Malayalam version leads the charge
According to the Sacnilk website, the lion’s share of the film’s success continues to come from the Malayalam belt. Out of the Rs 112 crore collected so far, more than Rs 86 crore has been generated from the Malayalam version alone.On Day 17, Malayalam occupancy touched 66.89%, with afternoon shows recording a remarkable 76.68%.
Kalyani Priyadarshan’s first success in a lead
Much of the film’s success has been credited to Kalyani Priyadarshan, who carries the story of Chandra/Neeli with both conviction and depth. Supported by Naslen K. Gafoor, Sandy Master, Arun Kurian, and veteran actor Vijayaraghavan, along with the cameo roles of Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas, ‘Lokah’ is filled with stunning performances along with catchy visuals.
Apart from the audiences, several celebrities have also shared their love towards ‘Lokah’. During a recent promotional event for ‘Mirai’, the actor Jayaram hailed the Dominic Arun’s directorial by saying, “I believe it’s a film made on a Rs 30 crore budget. But doesn’t it give us the effect of a film made on a budget of over Rs 100 crore? The technical team deserves 100% applause, and the whole world should watch and learn from it,” Actor Alia Bhatt shared a note on Instagram that read, “Such a fresh blend of mythic folklore & mystery! So happy to see the love it’s getting.
