Legendary Malayalam actor Madhu, who is now 92 years old, has shared a very emotional story about why he once decided to retire from films. In a recent interview the legendary actor said he had planned to act in the 2019 film ‘Lucifer’ which was directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and had a huge cast led by Mohanlal. Talking to Ginger Media, Madhu said he was part of the project at first and everything was set. But just before the shoot, he slipped and fell. He got a bruise on his face. He said, āI informed them that I could not start shoot on the agreed-on date with that face. They said that it is okay.āThe team even told him that they would wait for him, and they could delay the shoot for two weeks. But Madhu felt something different inside him. He believed the fall was a sign. He felt it was time for him to stop acting. So he stepped away from ‘Lucifer’ and quietly decided to retire.
Why he stayed away from films
Madhu said he thought his accident happened for a reason. He felt that maybe the universe was telling him that his long journey in cinema had reached its end. The legendary actor did not want to trouble the team or slow down the shoot. He simply believed that it was the right time to step away. He kept this decision to himself and stayed at home peacefully. Thinking his time in films was over. During this time, he stayed quiet and did not plan any more movies.
Mammoottyās unexpected visit
But his retirement did not last long. One day, Malayalam megastar Mammootty visited him in person. Madhu said Mammootty came with a strong request. He asked him to act in his 2021 political film ‘One’. Mammootty told him that he wanted Madhu to play the role of a college principal, who is also the guru of Mammoottyās character.Madhu said, āHe really insisted that I should play the role of his characterās guru, a college principal. He said that he, along with the director, producer, and writer, imagined only me in that part.ā Madhu felt moved by this. He agreed to act again but only on the condition that they would shoot at a nearby location in Kannammoola, Thiruvananthapuram. The team happily agreed.
Their sweet friendship moment
Last November, Mammootty again went to meet Madhu at his home, Shivabhavan. Mammootty fondly called him his āsuperstar.ā He even posted a photo with him and wrote, āClick with My Superstar after a long time.āThey spoke about old memories. Mammootty said he recently watched Amaram again. He told Madhu, āThat scene where you row out into the deep sea ā wonderful. I must say, I learned to row well that day itself.āMadhu laughed and said, āIāve always loved boats and the water. Thatās why I didnāt think twice before stepping aboard that day!āOn the other hand, Mammootty has the most awaited multistarrer film ‘Patriot’ in the pipeline.
