In a past chat with Beer Biceps, also known as Ranveer Allahabadia, Jackie Shroff spoke openly about his early life in Teen Batti, a chawl in Mumbai. Sharing details about the tough conditions, the ‘Hero’ actor said he used to sleep on the floor. He remembered a terrifying moment when he saw a snake come into the room. He said, “I used to sit on the floor and eat, which is the best way to eat, I think. My mother would cook, and I would sit on the ground and eat. Those memories haven’t left my mind. I used to sleep on the floor of this room. I saw a snake in the corner of that room. Once a rat bit me and my mom.”
Wanted to buy back the old chawl room
Even after becoming a successful film star, Jackie still feels a deep connection to his old home. In a different interview with Vicky Lalwani, the ‘Rangeela’ actor revealed that he had tried to get back his room in the chawl, but the landlord refused. He explained, “I am trying, but they are not giving it back to me. He (the landlord) thinks that if he gives it to me, then… I am like, ‘Bro, I won’t run away with it.’ This guy is not giving it to me. I told him that whatever money you are getting as rent for my old room… four people live there now. I told him that I will pay what those four people are paying. But he doesn’t want to…”
Now lives in a designer dream home
Things are very different for Jackie Shroff today. According to an ABP report, the actor now lives in a stunning sea-facing apartment in one of Mumbai’s most expensive areas. The house, which is said to be worth around Rs 31 crore, was designed by John Abraham’s architectural firm. That’s not all. As per a Celebrity Net Worth report cited by GQ, Jackie’s personal net worth is estimated to be a massive Rs 212 crore.
Became a star with ‘Hero’ in 1983
Jackie started his career in the film industry with a small role as an extra in the 1982 film ‘Swami Dada.’ But just a year later, his life changed forever when he starred in the blockbuster ‘Hero,’ directed by Subhash Ghai and also starring Meenakshi Sheshadri.
