Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently opened up about residing with Ayurvedic, an Indian method of holistic and natural medicine, approach while she was pregnant with her two kids, Archie (6) and Lilibet (3).

During an interview on her podcast Conversations with a Female Founder, Markle revealed, “During my pregnancies, I had an Ayurvedic doctor, and so much of it was about seeing food as medicine,” with the guest Hannah Mendoza, founder of the plant-based, superfood latte and tea brand.

When they were discussing alternatives to caffeine, Meghan became candid about the stereotypes and taboos regarding mushrooms. “I think a lot of people, when they hear mushrooms, they go, ‘Okay, she’s talking about being hippie dippie and grounded in all these things,’” the 43-year-old said. Markle stated that if someone is not familiar with adaptogens, it gets a little psychedelic and super ‘woo woo.’ However, it is a food trend that someone might be ahead of the curve on.

As the interview moved forward, Meghan went on to say, “So there are these items and ingredients that have been part of our natural ecosystem and dietary system for a long time, whether acknowledged or not, that somehow you say ‘Mushrooms’ and now people have a connotation attached to it, but it’s really just a food trend that I believe you were far ahead of in terms of saying.’” “Hold on, these have properties that can in some way make you feel differently, in a really safe way,” she added, citing that few years prior people used to mispronounce ‘quinoa’ as ‘canoa.’In fact, Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ talks about psychedelics and his experience with the ‘magic mushrooms’ in 2016.
