Mohanlal’s latest film Thudaram, directed by Tharun Moorthy, is proving to be a box office juggernaut. In just 17 days, the film has raked in a staggering Rs 98.75 crore in India, surpassing the lifetime collections of Tovino Thomas’ blockbuster 2018, which had earned Rs 92.85 crore. With this feat, Thudaram has officially become the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, etching another milestone in Mohanlal’s illustrious career. From the day of its release, Thudaram showcased a steady and consistent performance at the box office. It opened with Rs 5.25 crore on its first Friday and saw remarkable growth over the weekend, peaking at Rs10.5 crore on its first Sunday. Despite the expected weekday drops, the film held strong, closing its first week at an impressive Rs 51.4 crore. The momentum continued into the second week, with the film collecting Rs 35.35 crore, registering only a 31.23% drop — a commendable hold considering the competition and screen count. The third weekend has once again reaffirmed the film’s popularity. Early estimates for its third Sunday suggest a Rs5 crore collection, bringing the total to Rs98.75 crore. What makes Thudaram’s run even more remarkable is its dominance in the Malayalam market. Of the total earnings so far, over Rs96 crore has come from the Malayalam version alone, while the Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions contributed a smaller share. Its ability to maintain audience interest for over two weeks and attract strong weekend footfalls has been pivotal in its climb up the box office charts. With just Rs 1.25 crore more needed, Thudaram is now poised to enter the coveted Rs100 crore club — a rare achievement for Malayalam cinema. If it crosses the mark within the next couple of days, it will join the elite list alongside L2: Empuraan and Manjummel Boys as only the third Malayalam film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in India.
