Just as the world was getting used to having Gen Z at the workplace while Gen Alpha is still growing up, the next generation of population is all set to begin from January 1, 2025. Aptly called Generation Beta, after Gen Alpha, this group will include people who are born between the years 2025 and 2039. And in the next 10 years, Gen Beta is expected to consist 16 per cent of the global population; many of them will even live up to the beginning of the 22nd century, revealed social researcher Mark McCrindle.
For the unversed, Mark McCrindle is often credited for defining and making the generational labels. Read more about it here.
What are the different generational labels?
Starting from people born between 1925 to 1945 are the Builders, followed by the Boomers who are born between 1946 to 1964. Then comes the Gen Y– which are people born between 1980 to 1994, followed by the Gen Z who are born between 1995 to 2009, and Gen Alpha which consists of people born between 2010 to 2024.
Now, the next generation of people after Gen Alpha is Gen Beta. As the term suggests, now Greek alphabets are being used to label the generations starting from Gen Alpha in order to mark the beginning of a new era in the human history.
Commenting on this shift with the beginning of 2025, McCrindle shared on his blog post, “Baby Boomers are entering their retirement years with different expectations, while Builders are focusing more on relationships and building a legacy. The pace of generational change is accelerating, and organisations need to recognise these shifts to engage in a way that is relevant to each.”
All about Gen Beta
The new generation of people, popularly being called ‘Beta babies’ “will be the children of younger Gen Ys (millennials) and older Gen Zs,” McCrindle shared in another blog post about Gen Beta.
Sharing his views on how Gen Beta would grow-up in a world of technology and AI, he further wrote, “For Generation Beta, the digital and physical worlds will be seamless. While Generation Alpha has experienced the rise of smart technology and artificial intelligence, Generation Beta will live in an era where AI and automation are fully embedded in everyday life—from education and workplaces to healthcare and entertainment.
“They will likely be the first generation to experience autonomous transportation at scale, wearable health technologies, and immersive virtual environments as standard aspects of daily life. Their formative years will be marked by a greater emphasis on personalisation—AI algorithms will tailor their learning, shopping, and social interactions in ways we can only begin to imagine today.”
However, he also noted, “Generation Beta will also inherit a world grappling with major societal challenges. With climate change, global population shifts, and rapid urbanisation at the forefront, sustainability will not just be a preference but an expectation. This generation will be raised by Millennial and older Gen Z parents, many of whom prioritise adaptability, equality, and eco-consciousness in their parenting.” And so, Gen Beta will be more “globally minded, community-focused, and collaborative than ever before” all of which can change the course of human history.
Talking about how Gen Beta will forge relationships, McCrindle shared that Gen Beta will be connected with the world but still have their individuality. “Social connection will look different for Generation Beta. Born into a world of always-on technology, they will navigate friendships, education, and careers in an era where digital interaction is the default. However, curating their own digital identities with safety and wisdom (driven by their parents) will be a priority, as will helping them foster a strong sense of individuality – both in online and offline environments. We predict Generation Beta will embody the balance between hyper-connectivity and personal expression. They’ll redefine what it means to belong, blending in-person relationships with global digital communities,” he further shared on the blog post.
