Nashik: The Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) recorded 1.06 lakh new vehicle registrations in the last financial year — a slight increase from the 1.01 lakh registrations in the 2024-25 fiscal year.
As of March 31, 2025, the total vehicle population in the Nashik RTO’s jurisdiction reached 2.3 million. Assuming at least 35% of these vehicles are within the Nashik city, this indicates a significant number of vehicles on the roads.
On the other hand, electric vehicle (e-vehicle) registrations declined as compared to the previous year. As many as 5,205 e-vehicles were registered in 2024-25 fiscal as compared to 8,921 vehicles the previous year. E-bike registrations fell from 8,250 to 4,569, and e-car registrations decreased from 501 to 358.
A senior RTO official, while talking to TOI, said around 1 lakh new vehicles are registered every year in Nashik and this has been the trend for at least a decade now. “The Covid years, however, were an exception. Vehicle registrations majorly contribute to the revenue generation for the RTO. During the last financial year, the revenue collection of Nashik RTO stood at Rs 367 crore,” the official said.

Among new vehicle registrations, the number of two-wheelers registered last fiscal was approximately 2,000 more than those registered the previous year. The trend was similar for new car registrations. The registration of cabs jumped from 356 to 961, while for tractors it jumped from 812 to 1,427. The registration for excavators also increased from 150 to 355.
Regional transport officer (Nashik) Pradeep Shinde said, “During the financial year 2023-24, the Nashik RTO also earned a revenue of Rs14.2 crore from the allotment of VIP numbers. This figure went down to Rs10.4 crore in the 2024-25 fiscal.”
Single-digit numbers (1 to 9), double-digit numbers (11, 22, 99, etc.) and various other numbers sequences (like 999, 9999, 101, 1001, 1234, etc) are in huge demand. If there are more takers for a particular number, the Nashik RTO invites bids from such people and whoever offers the higher price gets the number. During the last financial year, one particular number was sold for Rs7.5 lakh.
