Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s split highlights struggles over career support |

Date:

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s marriage has officially come to an end, and sources say one of the biggest issues between them was how they supported each other’s careers. Married in 2006, the couple built a life together while raising their two daughters, Sunday, now 17, and Faith, now 14. For many years, Kidman put her career on hold to focus on being a mom. As one source explained, “She was all about them.”But eventually, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress stepped back into the spotlight and rediscovered her passion for acting. “She truly thrived working again. She’s been feeling amazing and very happy about having a career again,” a family source shared. With her children now older, Kidman has found encouragement at home as well. “Now that they are older, [Sunday and Faith] love seeing their mom work. They are very supportive of their mom,” the source added.

Keith Urban’s Lack of Support for Nicole Kidman’s Career Quietly Fueled Marriage Breakdown?

For Urban, however, things played out differently. “Keith was used to her being supportive of his career. He’s not been as supportive as she hoped,” the source revealed. While Kidman often stood behind his music journey, she reportedly didn’t feel the same level of support from him as her acting career picked back up.Just weeks before her split became public, Kidman wrapped filming Practical Magic 2 alongside Sandra Bullock. She also has four TV projects lined up, including a highly anticipated return for season 3 of Big Little Lies. Urban, meanwhile, is in the middle of his High and Alive World Tour, which will keep him on the road until August 2026.On September 30, Kidman officially filed for divorce in Nashville, citing irreconcilable differences. “She didn’t want this,” a source told PEOPLE. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”Her career comeback had been inspired in part by her late mother, who passed away in September 2024. In an interview with CBS News, Kidman recalled thinking she was “done” with acting after having her first daughter, until her mom told her, “I wouldn’t give up completely. Keep a finger sort of in it.” That advice stuck with her.Over the years, both Kidman and Urban had spoken about balancing demanding careers with family life. In 2024, Kidman called Urban her “deep, deep love” and said his support gave her strength. Back in 2018, she explained that they were “strict with boundaries” about work at home, keeping their Nashville life “simple, quiet, and nourishing.”
