Amos Poe passes away at age 76
Taking to her social media account, Poe’s wife, Claudia Summers, shared the news that her husband passed away on Christmas Day. She posted a black and white photo of Amos Poe from when he was young, and added the caption, “September 30, 1949 – December 25, 2025. Amos took his last breath today at 3:33 pm, surrounded by loved ones. ‘Adios’ — AP.”

The filmmaker was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2022, and had been quite public about sharing his diagnosis with the world.

Many close friends, co-workers as well as fans took to their socials to pay tribute to the director. Jim Jarmusch, a fellow filmmaker posted “love to you, Claudia. You are a gift to us all.” Veteran AV artist, filmmaker, and hip hop legend Fab Five Freddy also shared his condolences. He wrote in the comment section that “Claudia, you and Amos were among my first friends on the scene. Just perfect how you guys connected as a power couple not long ago. Elegant, cool, courageous, high powered love and affection perfection I felt from you both. One of my most memorable days this year was that Sunday in July hanging out. And That amazing James Baldwin story Amos shared.A highlight I will treasure from a life well lived.”
