Police destroy 110 modified bike silencers causing sound pollution at Kurnool

TIRUPATI: Kurnool police seized about 110 illegally modified bike silencers leading to sound pollution and causing nuisance to the common public.
The bike silencers seized as part of a special drive were destroyed with the help of a road roller at the Kondareddy Buruju junction at Kurnool on Thursday.
Kurnool SP G Bindu Madhav told reporters that the modified bike silencers were leading to sound pollution and causing disturbance to the common people and noted that the problem was more rampant in the hospitals and school zones in the city.
“When we tested the modified bike silencers, most of them were found to be beyond the permissible 80 decibel limits and hence we seized about 110 bike silencers found to be in violation of the rules”, SP added.
The SP warned bike riders against the use of modified bike silencers and advised them not to alter the company provided silencers.
“Alteration of bike silencers will lead to registration of criminal cases and the seizure of the bikes in the future”, Bindu Madhav warned.
