Rahul Gandhi meets late Captain Anshuman Singh’s family; mother urges government to withdraw Agniveer | India News

Date:

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday met the family of late Captain Anshuman Singh in Raebareli. Later, the Captain’s mother spoke to the reporters urging the government to withdraw the Agniveer scheme.
“I request the government not to divide the Army into two categories,” Manju Singh told reporters after the meeting.
“They (Agniveers) will be mentally and physically weak after four years after which they will be unable to pursue their studies …this is not good,” she added.
Captain Anshuman Singh died last year after he sustained severe burns in an effort to rescue people in a fire accident that took place in Siachen. He was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu on July 5.
Rahul also paid respects at the martyrs’ memorial in Lalganj, laying a wreath and planting a sapling. He visited AIIMS-Raebareli later.
