NEW DELHI: Police escorted two men suspected of causing a disturbance near the venue of Delhi chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s public event in Gandhi Nagar, just days after a similar incident involving her security.Footage shared by news agency ANI showed officers escorting away a man dressed in a shalwar kurta. The police have not yet confirmed the motive behind the disruption.A man who got into an argument with traders at event in began shouting slogans against her, before being escorted out by police. The chief minister was addressing an event organised by the Association of Wholesale Readymade Garments Dealers. In her speech, she sought to place East Delhi — often referred to as Yamunapar — at the centre of her government’s development push.“We will once again place Yamunapar at the forefront of Delhi’s development,” Gupta said, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, which she claimed would ease daily life for residents.Gupta also struck a defiant note, telling supporters, “Your chief minister Didi will not be afraid, will not get tired, will not lose. Till Delhi gets its rights, she will keep fighting with you.”The Gandhi Nagar gathering ended without further incident, but police have stepped up security around the chief minister in the wake of the disruptions.Earlier this week, an assault on Gupta took place around 8.15 am on Wednesday during a Jan Sunvai at her Civil Lines camp office. Gupta’s office later described it as part of a “well-planned conspiracy to kill her.” Police officials said the attack was serious and could have turned life-threatening. The accused, identified as 41-year-old Sakariya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai from Rajkot, Gujarat, was arrested on the spot. Investigators revealed that Khimjibhai had a prior criminal record, with five cases against him, including a knife attack. According to police, the accused had reached Delhi two days earlier, conducted a recce near the CM’s residence and office, and was even caught on CCTV cameras loitering around the area. This has raised suspicion that the attack was not spontaneous but part of a larger plan. In her first reaction after the incident, CM Gupta posted on X, calling the assault “not just an attack on me, but a cowardly attempt on our resolve to serve Delhi and work for the welfare of the public.” She admitted being shaken initially but assured that she was recovering. “Such attacks can never break my spirit or my commitment to serving the public,” she wrote. “I will be among you with even greater energy and dedication than before.”
