Soha Ali Khan paid a heartfelt tribute to her father, the late former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, on his birth anniversary by visiting Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens stadium. The legendary cricketer shared a deep and enduring connection with the historic ground, making it a meaningful choice for Soha to honour his life and cricketing legacy. On the occasion, Soha visited the empty stadium and shared a video on Instagram, capturing her quiet walk through Eden Gardens.
The video also featured archival clips from the famous 1974 Test match against the West Indies — a game that remains one of the most iconic victories in Indian cricket history under Pataudi’s captaincy.
“Eden Gardens may be empty today, but it is never silent for you”
Alongside the video, Soha penned a moving note reflecting on her father’s bond with the stadium and the memories it continues to hold. She wrote, “On your birthday, Abba, I wanted to stand where the game remembers you. Eden Gardens may be empty today, but it is never silent for you. A ground you loved to play on, and one where you captained India many times, perhaps most memorably during the December 1974 Test against the indomitable West Indies.”Recalling one of the most defining moments of that historic Test, Soha highlighted her father’s resilience and leadership. She wrote, “A ball from Andy Roberts struck you on the face, fracturing your cheekbone. You retired, bleeding and hurt, but returned to lead the side to an unbelievable victory by 85 runs.” She added that the match went down as one of Indian cricket’s most celebrated triumphs, describing it as “a timeless example of grit and lion-hearted (or perhaps tiger-hearted) captaincy.”Concluding her tribute, Soha wrote, “The stands still remember you, the cricketer. I remember my Abba. Both belong here. Happy birthday, Abba.” Soha Ali Khan, the daughter of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, married actor Kunal Kemmu on January 25, 2015.
