Panaji: Devotees of Tapobhoomi mutt, Kundaim, and Padma Shri Swami Brahmeshanand, gathered in large numbers at Panaji police station on Wednesday night to demand an FIR against activist Rama Kankonkar for hurting religious sentiments. They demanded Kankonkar’s immediate arrest and initially refused to leave the police station until the arrest was made. They, however, decided to disperse after the Panaji PI assured swift action.
The devotees raised slogans demanding Kankonkar’s expulsion from Goa and calling him a serial offender “who is trying to divide Hindus and society”. They said Kankonkar is ignorant of the social work being done by Swami Brahmeshanand and has made derogatory comments criticising Tapobhoomi.
“People like Rama Kankonkar are seasonal Hindus who protest the demolition of Dev Khapreshwar temple (at Porvorim), but unfairly criticised Tapobhoomi. He has uploaded a video defaming Tapobhoomi. In the same manner, we want an apology video to be uploaded by him,” a devotee said. Kankonkar had tried to unnecessarily drag Tapobhoomi into the Dev Khapreshwar issue, its devotees claimed.
