Tesla to Recall Over 1.6 Million Cars in China for Remote Software Update

Date:

Tesla is recalling 1.68 million cars in China for a remote software update to address an issue where the trunk may not signal if it is not properly secured, according to China’s market regulator. The recall includes some imported Model S and Model X vehicles, as well as domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y cars made between October 15, 2020, and July 17, 2024.
The regulator noted that the problem could cause an unlocked trunk to open while driving, potentially obstructing the driver’s view. However, it did not report any specific incidents. Tesla will address the issue with a remote software fix, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation.
China remains a key market for Tesla, which is also facing increasing competition from local electric vehicle manufacturers. The company recently reported a significant drop in net income for the second quarter, attributing the decline to reduced sales despite price cuts and favorable financing terms.
