Three cousins die as car rams into bridge divider in Nalanda | Patna News

Patna: Three cousins were killed and one sustained severe injuries after a speeding car lost control and rammed into a bridge divider on the Ekangarasrai-Jehanabad road near Kathhar bridge in Nalanda district on Tuesday morning.The victims were identified as Rohit Kumar (22), Upendra Kumar (18) and Sonu Kumar (21). All were residents of Teni Bigha village in Jehanabad district. The critically injured youth, Suraj Kumar (19), was referred to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for emergency treatment.According to police, all four were cousins and had gone together to Bhatu Bigha village in Ekangarasrai to attend the “tilak” ceremony of a friend’s sister from Masaurhi. The accident occurred while they were returning home. A vehicle approaching from the opposite direction allegedly attempted to overtake near Kathhar bridge. In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, the driver of their car swerved sharply, lost control and rammed into the concrete divider. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely wrecked.Two of the occupants died on the spot. The third succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Patna for treatment. Suraj sustained serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.Telhara police station in-charge Ajit Kumar Tinku said preliminary findings suggest the car went out of control while attempting to dodge the oncoming vehicle. “Police arrived promptly, carried out rescue operations and shifted the bodies to the Model (Sadar) Hospital in Biharsharif for post-mortem.”
