Tisca Chopra slams Bollywood for following the same pattern, says ‘Everyone is petrified; nobody wants to take a chance’ |

With every passing year, the norms of filmmaking change, the taste of audiences takes a fresh turn, and a new player comes with the desire to rule the market. However, amid all the changes, everything evolving, certain things, both good and bad, refuse ot budge. According to actor-director Tisca Chopra, Bollywood, being the creative community, follows a certain pattern, and is afraid of taking risks, giving due credit on the ground level, and that makes the entire process and product very shallow.

Tisca Chopra feels Bollywood is working on a surface level

During a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Tisca Chopra was asked what can be changed in Bollywood to make the process easier for every filmmaker to reach a wider audience. This was asked in the context of a pattern that theatrical and OTT releases see, where big banner movies and shows are given more preference than others. Speaking on the subject, Chopra said, “The problem is that we are watering the fruits and not the roots, which is writing. The work has become extremely shallow.”“I am not saying one can’t do commercial or comedy cinema,” she mentioned, highlighting that the latter genre fascinates her as well.“But it starts from the writing. You need to give time to your writers and freedom to brainstorm ideas. We don’t nourish writers,” she continued.

Tisca Chopra strongly feels Bollywood is afraid of taking risks

“I have a problem with projects,” she added, mentioning how, despite being a creative community, Bollywood often ends up following a pattern. From adding a certain cast to infusing a song, the industry ends up following the same blueprint. According to Tisca, this happens and has been happening for years now because “Everyone is petrified. I understand there’s money involved.” She elaborated that money will be invested either way, whether one falls into the same pattern trap or not, but the problem lies in the fact that “We are very afraid. Nobody wants to take a chance. People keep doing the same thing with a little twist.” She added that now the audience also doesn’t approve of it if someone is serving them the same content with just minor changes. Thus, the responsibility falls on the shoulders of the filmmakers and studios to show some trust when something new is pitched with conviction.
