COIMBATORE: Padmini Prakash of Coimbatore, who is India’s first transwoman anchor, on Saturday urged the Tamil Nadu govt to allot a quota for third genders in faculty member posts in govt educational institutions.Padmini, 46, appeared for the assistant professor examination conducted by the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) on Saturday. The TRB conducted the exam to fill 2,708 posts in the govt arts and science colleges. She appeared for the exam at the Ondipudur centre in Coimbatore.“I’m qualified enough to be part of the faculty. I have a PhD, and I have cleared NET. Also, I have a certified service period. If the govt approves my posting, it should be a game-changer for gender equality in society,” Padmini told TOI. “There is no specific reservation for the third gender, and not even a single person has been recruited in govt colleges as a faculty member so far. Though we’ve been working in private institutions, securing a govt posting is a job security,” she said.
