NASHIK: A 23-year-old woman died, and two others were injured when Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation’s (MSRTC) e-bus rammed into the control room of Mahamarg bus terminus in Nashik. The incident occurred at around 10.30p.m. on Saturday, the Mahamarg police officials said.
The deceased was identified as Anjali Nagarjun, a resident of Andhra Pradesh. The other two injured were admitted to private hospitals by the MSRTC employees, said Nashik Division Controller Arun Siya.
According to the MSRTC officials, the passengers were waiting for the bus to go towards Shirdi when the incident occurred.
The e-bus on contract came from Shirdi to Nashik and was to go to the depot after completing its journey. “The driver was taking the bus in the reverse direction, but something happened, and the bus moved ahead with great speed to the extent that it jumped the barriers, stairs, and rammed into the control room cabin of the MSRTC, hitting the passengers in between.”
The MSRTC officials said that the deceased, Anjali Nagarjun, was in Nashik with her husband on a visit to Trimbakeshwar and was looking to travel back to Andhra Pradesh via Shirdi. It was the time when the driver lost control of the bus and crushed her.
The local authorities and the MSRTC employees quickly rushed to the accident spot, called the ambulances, and took all three to private hospitals.
Anjali was taken to Civil Hospital, the authorities said. Anjali’s husband, who was with her, is in a state of shock. The body of the deceased will be handed to the relatives who are coming to Nashik, the police said.
