Veteran playback legend Udit Narayan has shared an unbelievable behind-the-scenes story from the recording of the unforgettable hit “Bole Chudiyaan” from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.Speaking on the sets of Indian Idol, Udit revealed that what began as a usual studio session quickly turned into a dramatic, high-pressure dash between the microphone and the airport.
Udit was running short on time
Udit recalled that he was already running short on time, with a live show scheduled the same day and his luggage fully checked in. With rising anxiety, he told composer Jatin Lalit, “Take everyone’s voice, I’ll give a rough track because I’m stressed. If I miss my flight, I’ll be in big trouble.” But the composers insisted he finish the final take then and there, turned into a brief argument before Udit rushed toward the airport at the last possible moment.
Called back to the studio with luggage still on the aircraft
Just as he thought he had escaped the chaos, his phone rang again. The recording team informed him he still had one or two lines left. “They called me right back to the studio,” he said, laughing at the memory.Udit returned to the studio while his bags remained on the aircraft. He recorded the remaining “Bole Chudiyaan” lines at lightning speed and dashed back to the airport, managing to board his flight just in time. The singer said the moment taught him something valuable, quoting Swami Vivekananda: “If you want to make history, you have to fight alone.”As we all know, Udit Narayan has a career spanning languages such as Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, Nepali, Bhojpuri and the legend was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.
