The OTT platform has cancelled Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian adaptation of the global Citadel franchise helmed by Raj and DK. The show, which featured Samantha and Varun as younger versions of Priyanka Chopra’s character Nadia’s parents, will not return for a second season, according to a recent report.
According to Deadline, Citadel: Diana, the Italian version, has also been discontinued after just one season, like Honey Bunny. Despite these spin-offs being shelved, the core Citadel storyline remains intact. Amazon has confirmed that the original series—led by Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden—will return for a second season.
“Having successfully traversed India and Italy, storylines from both Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana will be woven into the upcoming second season of the mothership series Citadel,” said Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios.
His statement further added: “While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Season 2 of Citadel will be our most exhilarating yet. With high-stakes storytelling, new additions to our amazing cast and bold, cinematic ambition, the new season will deepen the emotional journeys of Nadia, Mason, and Orlick against the relentless force that is Manticore. We’re excited to share what’s next when Citadel Season 2 premieres globally in Q2 of 2026.”
Citadel: Honey Bunny, which premiered in December 2024, received mixed reviews. While some critics found it more engaging than the original Citadel, it was still viewed as one of the less impressive additions in Raj and DK’s body of work.
This development comes amid a wave of content reshuffling at the OTT platform following the departure of Jennifer Salke, former Head of Amazon MGM Studios. Salke had greenlit the Citadel universe and other ambitious projects during her tenure.
Speculation is mounting that the Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner has also been quietly dropped, although no formal announcement has been made.
