Winter travel surge: Jharkhand sees a boom in holiday bookings; Thailand and snow destinations draw adventurous travellers

Ranchi: As winter sets in, Jharkhand’s holiday travel scene is turning vibrant, with a strong surge in both international and domestic bookings. According to travel agents across Ranchi and Jamshedpur, the mood is upbeat, and December is shaping up to be one of the busiest months in recent years.Thailand, Vietnam, and Dubai continue to top the list for international travellers from the state, driven by affordable airfares, quick connectivity, and attractive packages. Among domestic destinations, Rajasthan and Goa remain strong favourites, but this year, snow destinations such as Manali, Shimla, Darjeeling, and Gangtok are drawing adventurous travellers in large numbers.Ranchi-based travel consultant Gagan Manjeet said bookings began much earlier this season. “We already have around 30 to 35 bookings for Thailand and Vietnam for December. Thailand is very cost-effective; even a five-night 5-star trip for a couple can be done for around Rs 1 lakh. That makes it almost comparable to Goa,” he said.“People choose Thailand for its nightlife and beaches. Vietnam is attracting travellers for its amusement parks and clean, scenic cities. Rajasthan, meanwhile, continues to be the choice for a luxury clientele looking for palace hotels and royal experiences,” Manjeet added.Travel agent Anuradha Choudhary said Jharkhand’s travellers are increasingly prioritising immersive experiences. “People want something memorable, like desert camping in Dubai, island tours in Thailand, or heritage stays in Rajasthan. Experience-based travel is a huge trend this winter,” she said.Snowfall destinations are also seeing a sharp rise in demand as bike riders and travel enthusiasts look for winter chills and scenic landscapes. Manali and Shimla are receiving steady interest, while Sikkim’s Gangtok and the Nathula region have become major draws for first-time mountain travellers.Jamshedpur traveller Sai Swami, who is currently exploring the Northeast, said, “Nathula Pass is unlike anything I’ve seen. The snow-covered roads, the thin, cold air, and the silence of the mountains make it feel surreal. It feels like entering another world. For winter travellers, this is pure bliss. Anyone looking for real snowfall and adventure should come here at least once.”
