The animated sequel ‘Zootopia 2’ has zoomed past the USD 1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, and managed to do so in record time – just 17 days. The film that has been ruling the box office, reportedly amassed USD 232.7 million in North America and a staggering USD 753.4 million from international markets. With this, the film’s worldwide total has hit an estimated USD 986.1 million. With Friday’s collections taken into consideration, the PG film has officially crossed the billion-dollar benchmark.
‘Zootopia 2’ enters USD 1 billion club
‘Zootopia 2’ now becomes only the third film of the year to enter the USD 1 billion club, following ‘Lilo & Stitch’ and the Chinese blockbuster ‘Ne Zha 2’. As per reports, while the live-action remake, grossed USD 1.03 billion, the animated Chinese film took the box office throne as the highest-grossing release of 2025 with an impressive USD 1.9 billion worldwide.It is now one of the 13 animated films in cinema history to have ever surpassed the USD 1 billion mark.Released nearly nine years after the original ‘Zootopia’, the sequel benefitted from the Thanksgiving holiday and immediately ignited a box office frenzy. ‘Zootopia 2’ debuted with USD 158 million in North America and an impressive USD 559 million global debut.
‘Zootopia’ ignites China box office
The film emerged as a rare Hollywood success story in China, where it has earned an estimated USD 430 million so far. This places ‘Zootopia 2’ second on the list of the highest-grossing non-local releases in the country, second to only Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which collected USD 632 million.
Record-breaking run
As per Variety, the film recorded the second-biggest Thanksgiving opening of all time, the largest debut for an animated film, and the fourth-biggest worldwide opening weekend in box office history, trailing behind only ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. This also makes it the biggest animated blockbuster since ‘Moana 2’, which grossed USD 1.059 billion worldwide, during its Thanksgiving 2024 release.
