A three-year-old was killed and buried after allegedly being raped by a 22-year-old relative in Tirupati, sparking protests Saturday and demands by victim’s parents for the suspect to “be hanged in public”. CM N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock, wondering whether such perpetrators were “humans or animals” as he ordered a speedy trial of the accused, Sushanth, and announced Rs 10 lakh as compensation for the family of the child. Police said Sushanth stayed in the same neighbourhood and had taken the child out on the pretext of buying her chocolates. When they did not return home, her parents searched everywhere, finally lodging a complaint.
