JAMMU: A bridge washed away in a cloudburst that killed 65 people at Chishoti in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district last Aug was restored by Border Roads Organisation in 12 days. Operationalisation of the 140ft triple double reinforced Bailey bridge restored road connectivity between Gulabgarh and the remote Machail region.Jammu-based defence PRO Col Sunil Bartwal said, “The restoration marks the end of a prolonged disruption caused by the devastating cloudburst, which washed away the existing bridge at Chishoti and severed the only road link to the remote Machail region.”“The operation involved extensive site preparation, construction of abutments, transportation of bridging stores, launching of the Bailey bridge and development of approach roads under challenging terrain and weather conditions,” Col Bartwal said.
