Christopher Nolan to SCRAP ‘The Odyssey’ screenings for influencers ahead of release |

Date:

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic ‘The Odyssey’ is just weeks away from its release and according to the latest buzz, not everyone will have access to early screenings. As per reports, there will be no advance screenings for social media influencers, with distributor Universal Pictures opting instead to screen the film first for professional critics following its world premiere.

‘The Odyssey’ scraps screenings for influencers

According to reports on The Hollywood Reporter, ‘The Odyssey’ will have its global premiere in London on July 6, after which the studio will begin hosting screenings exclusively for film critics. The decision marks a departure from common industry practice in which studios invite fan-site bloggers and social media influencers to attend advance screenings and share early reactions online.

Influencer early reviews draws backlash

Recently, early influencer reactions to ‘Supergirl’ from Warner Bros. Pictures drew criticism online after overwhelmingly positive posts were met with scepticism. The film later opened to mixed reviews from critics, and earned just a 59 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes. The studio also faced backlash over the early influencer reviews of ‘Disclosure Day’.This move comes amid waves of social media backlash over the film’s unconventional casting, story, dialogue, and costume. Since the trailer release, netizens have been up in arms against the film for its casting choices, and modernised dialogues for the ancient Greek epic.

‘The Odyssey’ cast and release date

‘The Odyssey’ is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 17. Based on The Odyssey, the film follows the legendary Greek hero Odysseus on his long, perilous journey home after the Trojan War as he attempts to return to the Kingdom of Ithaca and reunite with his family.Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, while Tom Holland plays his son, Telemachus.
