Cuddalore, Neyveli buses shifted from Chathiram to Panjapur terminus | Trichy News

Trichy: Following meetings to discuss ways to decongest Chathiram bus terminus, the district administration has changed origin points of TNSTC and private buses connecting Cuddalore and Neyveli from Chathiram terminus to Panjapur KKBT. The district administration has also instructed city police to penalise one-way and no parking violations on a daily basis around the terminus.TNSTC operates 34 buses daily between Chathiram terminus and Cuddalore district. The buses were operated from Chennai Trunk Road close to the terminus. Some people arriving from other districts at Panjapur terminus face hassle as they go to Chathiram to board connecting buses. Buses parked on roads result in traffic snarls. So, district collector Pratik Tayal passed the order to shift the 34 buses to the sixth platform in Panjapur KKBT from Sunday. The buses will be operated through Chathiram.A designated point near the Ramba Oorvasi theatre is earmarked to halt mofussil and city buses originating from Panjapur and operated via Chathiram, to embark and disembark passengers. A space was also provided near Kamarajar statue to take U-turn for mofussil buses without approaching the congestion zone.“Encroachments around the terminus have been removed in some places. Road improvement proposal is sanctioned, the work will commence soon. A permanent solution to further decongest the terminus is under consideration,” an official source said.Police said around 40-50 violations of one-way driving and illegal parking are recorded per day around the terminus. A penalty of ₹500 is collected per offence on the spot.“Shifting Cuddalore bound buses operated by Villupuram TNSTC is a good start. But, other mofussil buses such as Perambalur and Thuraiyur bound buses operated by Kumbakonam TNSTC should also be moved to Panjapur,” P Aiyarappan, a member of district road safety council, said.The development has come after a TOI report titled ‘Trichy’s Chathiram bus terminus, a nightmare for commuters,’ highlighting the traffic chaos around the terminus, was published on June 9.
