In a heartfelt tribute in Delhi, Hema Malini gathered family and friends to honor her late husband, Dharmendra. Amid the emotional farewells, she shared a poignant wish—a dream of his to publish a collection of his beautiful Urdu poetry. Known for delighting audiences with spontaneous recitals, Dharmendra’s poetic side was a treasure she hoped to immortalize for his admirers.

Hema Malini organized a prayer meet in Delhi for her late husband and legendary Hindi cinema actor, Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24, 2025. Several political dignitaries were in attendance along with Hema Malini and Dharmendra’s daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

Hema Malini reveals Dharmendra’s unfinished wish

During the ceremony, Hema Malini stepped up to the podium and delivered a tribute to the departed soul. The veteran actress became teary-eyed as she talked about her husband. Her tribute left everyone in attendance truly emotional. At the prayer meet, she also talked about Dharmendra’s unfinished dream of writing a book. She revealed that the late actor was a gifted person when it came to poetry, and he always wanted to publish his work.She said, “Over time, a hidden aspect of his personality emerged… jab woh Urdu ki Shayari karne lage. Unki khaas baat yahi thi ki koi bhi paristithi ho, woh uske anusar turant ek sher suna dete the…yeh unki khoobi thi (Over time, a hidden side of his personality emerged… when he began reciting Urdu poetry. His special quality was that no matter what the situation was, he would instantly recite an appropriate couplet… this was his gift).”Hema Malini added, “I often told him he should write a book—his fans would have loved it. So, he was very serious about it and was planning everything, but woh kaam par adhura reh gaya (He took it very seriously and had started planning everything, but that work remained unfinished).”

Dharmendra’s demise marked the end of an era in Hindi cinema. He had delivered memorable performances in movies like ‘Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke’, ‘Sholay,’ ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela’, and ‘Anupama’, among others.The actor also stepped into politics and was a Member of Parliament from Bikaner (2004-2009).He was last seen in Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s romantic comedy ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’. His last film ‘Ikkis’ is set to be released on December 25.
