Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ has made an impressive start at the box office. The actor’s final theatrical release opened to strong numbers across India and overseas.According to early estimates by Sacnilk, ‘Jana Nayagan’ earned Rs 41 crore net in India on its opening day.The film was screened across 13,067 shows on its first day. With a domestic gross of Rs 48.27 crore and an overseas gross of Rs 30 crore, the film’s total worldwide gross collection reached Rs 78.27 crore.

The Hindi version earned Rs 1.75 crore.The film registered an overall India occupancy of 41.6% across all languages. Tamil remained the strongest market for the film.
Tamil version records the highest occupancy
The Tamil version posted an overall occupancy of 68.31% on Thursday. Morning shows opened at 73.85%, followed by 62.46% in the afternoon. Evening occupancy stood at 63.62%, while night shows climbed to 73.31%.The Telugu version recorded an overall occupancy of 27.81%, with the highest response coming during the night shows at 33.58%.The Hindi version reported an overall occupancy of 14.60%. The film witnessed gradual growth through the day, ending with 20.33% occupancy during the night shows.
Tamil Nadu leads state-wise collections
Tamil Nadu emerged as the biggest contributor to the film’s opening-day gross, generating Rs 24 crore. Karnataka followed with Rs 11.25 crore, while Kerala added Rs 5.52 crore. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed Rs 4 crore and the rest of India accounted for Rs 3.50 crore.Together, these markets helped the film reach a domestic gross collection of Rs 48.27 crore. Overseas markets added another Rs 30 crore, taking the worldwide total to Rs 78.27 crore.
H. Vinoth directs Vijay’s final theatrical outing
Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ stars Thalapathy Vijay as Vetri Kondan, a fearless former police officer. He is determined to honour a promise by training his adopted daughter Viji, played by Mamitha Baiju, to become a soldier. However, her traumatic past makes the journey difficult.The story also introduces John Himler, played by Bobby Deol, who arrives in India with plans to trigger widespread unrest. The conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist drives the film’s action-packed narrative.
ETimes review praises Vijay’s performance
Reviewing the film, ETimes wrote, “We get episodes that are meant as callbacks to real-life issues – hooch tragedies, the Tuticorin shootout, political corruption, religious conflict, environmental exploitation by greedy capitalists, gun culture and so on. And all these are put together in a slap dash fashion that we stop caring about the characters. And the execution only makes it worse. By the time we get to the climax, we are in an over-the-top realm of remote-controlled warfare and social media-amplified hate campaigns that are happening overnight in hardly believable manner.“But Vijay holds it all together. The earnestness in his performance and the politically loaded lines (“50 varushama arasiyal pannitirukara kudumbam”, “Motha Tamizhachigaloda aaseervaadhamum ennikum unga kooda irukkum”) sort of keep us interested. And Anirudh does his part by adding punch to the scenes.
