Pune: Electricity supply in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad failed to normalise on Tuesday after disruptions caused by Monday’s downpour, leaving several neighbourhoods grappling with frequent interruptions and prolonged blackouts. The persistent outages severely impacted residents, particularly IT professionals working from home and students attending online classes.Pimpri Chinchwad continues to bear the brunt of the monsoon-related damage. In Pimple Saudagar and Rahatni, nearly 100 housing societies faced power cuts lasting over 12 hours. Major complexes such as Rose Valley, Peace Valley, Rose County, and Samruddhi Park have been without electricity since 9.30 pm on Monday. The financial burden on these societies is mounting. “We have spent Rs9,000 since last night just on diesel to run generators for common areas,” said Aditya Gond, a resident of Rose Valley. “Work-from-home schedules for IT employees are completely disrupted. I had to travel to a relative’s house in Chinchwad just to attend my daily calls.”In Ravet and Kiwale, frustrated residents staged a protest outside the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) office following three days of erratic supply. Some households reported being in the dark for over 24 hours.Prajakta Rudrawar, chairperson of Celestial City Phase 1 in Ravet, said, “Our society has 704 flats with nearly 3,000 residents. We have been without power since Saturday morning and have already consumed 700 litres of diesel. MSEDCL officials have provided no clear timeline for restoration, and even procuring diesel has become difficult.”The power crisis has triggered a secondary emergency—water shortages. Kunal Rawat, a local resident, said without electricity, societies are unable to operate water pumps. “The situation has become so persistent that many residents are now considering moving to other localities. For those of us in the IT sector, these disruptions make it impossible to work,” he added. While supply was partially restored in Bavdhan, residents there continued to face frequent, shorter outages. Some societies in the area experienced 18-hour disruptions, while a 500-flat complex in Ghotawade finally received power on Monday night after a staggering 40-hour blackout. Other areas, including Baner, Kondhwa, Charoli, and Wagholi, continue to report intermittent power failures.
