Coimbatore: Two individuals including a former police constable were arrested on Friday, for cheating over 500 job aspirants of ₹7 crore by promising them overseas employment.Race Course police identified the arrested as C Devasirvatham, 61, a dismissed police constable from Avarampalayam, and Krishnan, 60, of Kuniyamuthur. Devasirvatham had been dismissed from service in 2003 for disciplinary reasons. Police said the duo ran a private firm named Royal Training and Testing Center near the Coimbatore railway station.On March 16, the firm conducted interviews for various jobs and promised placements abroad. More than 500 candidates attended.“Following the interviews, all candidates were informed that they had been selected. The agency then collected the candidates’ original passports and demanded ₹4 lakh each to process visas. However, after taking the money and documents, the duo reportedly stopped responding, shut the office and went into hiding,” said an officer. The victims subsequently filed a complaint at the Race Course police station in May and a case was registered. Both were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
